Here’s a close up of the #ixora! It’s such a beautiful plant. It grows as a shrub and can get as big as 4-5 feet tall and puts out a bunch of fragrant clusters of these little orange flowers. Beautiful :) #flowers #gardening #shrub #container #patio (Taken with instagram)

And of course there are veggies. So far there is a #bell pepper, an #ancho pepper, a #sweet pepper, a #creole #tomato, and today I started seeds of giant bell peppers, a tumbler tomato and #roma tomatoes. Also started a planter of a #lettuce mix! And the #orange tree is planted behind these in a pot! #garden #gardening #patio #container gardening (Taken with instagram)

We grew some lettuce for Appa and he goes nuts over it…especially while listening to Brigitte (I find this hilarious).
This is adorable! I miss my little tortoise that mysteriously appeared in my garden, stayed two days and then left :( one day I’ll get another.

Picked some cosmos and sweet peas from the garden today. Love these colors together :)

Bet it wasn’t hard to guess what my photo a day would be for “fun”. Yep…playing in the garden :)

The lavender is doing SO good this year and I’m loving the way it looks in front of the mums :) I swear, you can buy one pot of mums and have them forever!! Just keep cutting them and they’ll keep coming back. Just love the orange and faint purple together…may have to take these with me too :p Filling up the patio already!

So many different gorgeous cosmos coming up this year!! I keep an old Ball jar full of wildflower seeds. Every time I get a new packet of flower seeds I open the packet, dump it in the jar and shake the jar up :p Then I like to just sprinkle a handful over the soil and see what comes up. I swear it’s like a present every day to see what’s new!! This year so far I have tons of cosmos, a few zinnias, and sweetpeas that haven’t bloomed yet but which are taking over everything!! When I get to the apartment, I think I’m going to get a couple of large but flat planters and just fill them with soil and sprinkle some wildflower seeds in them :) Even though I won’t have a garden in the ground I can still do the same thing in pots!

I’m spending as much time as I can in my garden at my mom’s house and you would swear I’m saying goodbye to a dear friend :p I plan on keeping up the garden here though and it’ll be a good anchor to home too! These are all of the new tomatoes popping up on the plants! Well at least some of them…I have a total of 10 tomato plants here right now…all types of different ones. These are romas, creoles, and early girls.

I went and put down a deposit for an apartment today. I’m a mix of so many emotions right now! Mostly excited. But there’s also some nervousness, panic, fear of the unknown, giddiness, hesitancy, impatience, etc. in there. And I think that’s all expected. Most people at my age have lived on their own before. Aside from about a year in college, I haven’t. I’m the first to admit that I come from a super privileged background and I’ve been fortunate enough to have a mom that has not only not kicked me out the door, but encouraged me to stay with her to get myself in the best state possible to be ready to move out.
So now I’m at a place that I can move out comfortably and start a life with my best friend and the love of my life :) And it’s a big move too! I’m moving across the lake from New Orleans which’ll mean a commute to work of about 45 minutes but I really don’t mind. I’ll be living in an apartment complex for now, but it’s a DAMN nice apartment complex. The appeal for me for living on the other side of the lake is the woods, and nature, and the serenity that you just can’t find in the city. And the fact that houses are a lot cheaper than they are in the city! My ultimate goal is to buy a house there within a year. But I figured it’s a good idea to rent there first to make sure I don’t mind the commute and to get to know the neighborhoods to know exactly where I want to live over there.
I couldn’t be happier with where I picked for us to live!! These apartments are gorgeous, they’re surrounded by woods, they’ve built bird houses all over to foster plenty of nature and friendly animal habitats, the landscape is gorgeous, the people are super friendly, and it’s just a place that you wouldn’t find here in the city. The big change is, I’m going from a huge yard at my mom’s place to garden in to a 10x5 slab of concrete to garden in! So I have to decide which potted plants to bring with me and I have to choose what I want to grow in containers. But I think it’ll be fun container gardening :)
Needless to say it’ll be an adventure and one that I’m really looking forward to :) My move in date is May 19th with Matt coming down around May 30th!! Here we go change!
